1. Large fluctuations in readings
Factor analysis: The pipeline oscillation of the ultrasonic flow sensor is large or there are devices that alter the flow pattern (such as flow meter devices downstream of regulating valves, pumps, and contraction orifices).
Solution: Modify the flow sensor to be installed locally away from the oscillation source or move it upstream of the device that alters the flow pattern.
II. Inaccurate readings with significant errors
Factor analysis:
1. The ultrasonic flowmeter sensor is installed at the top and bottom of the horizontal pipeline, where sediment can interfere with the ultrasonic signal. Solution: Install the sensor on both sides of the pipeline.
2. The ultrasonic flowmeter sensor is installed on the pipeline where the water flows downward, and the pipe is not filled with fluid. Solution: Install the sensor on the pipe section that is filled with fluid.
3. There are devices that cause strong turbulence in the flow pattern, such as Venturi tubes, orifice plates, vortex flowmeters, turbine flowmeters, or some enclosed valves, which are precisely within the range of sensor emission and reception, making the readings inaccurate. Solution: Install the sensor away from the aforementioned devices, with the upstream of the sensor 30D away from the devices and the downstream 10D away from the devices, or move the sensor upstream of the devices.
4. The input pipe diameter of the ultrasonic flowmeter does not match the inner diameter of the pipeline. Solution: Correct the pipe diameter to make it match.
III. The sensor is good, but the flow rate is low or there is no flow rate
Factor analysis:
1. The paint and rust on the outside of the pipeline have not been completely removed. Solution: Remove the pipeline and equipment sensors from scratch.
2. The pipeline surface is uneven or the ultrasonic flowmeter equipment is located at the welding seam. Solution: Grind the pipeline to make it flat or move it away from the welding seam.
3. The roundness of the pipeline is poor, the inner and outer surfaces are not smooth, and there is scaling on the pipe lining. If the pipe material is cast iron, this situation may occur. Solution: Select pipeline materials such as steel pipes with smooth inner and outer surfaces or where lining is applied.
4. The measured medium is either pure or contains too low a concentration of solid suspended matter. Solution: Select a suitable alternative type of meter.
5. On the fiberglass pipeline of the sensor equipment. Solution: Remove the fiberglass.
6. If the sensor device is placed on the casing, it will weaken the ultrasonic signal. Solution: Move the sensor to the pipe section without casing.
7. The sensor is not well coupled with the pipeline, and there are gaps or bubbles on the coupling surface. Solution: Apply a uniform layer of coupling agent.
4. When the control valve is partially closed or the flow rate decreases, the reading may actually increase
Factor analysis: The sensor is installed too close to the downstream of the control valve. When some valves are closed, the actual measurement of the flowmeter is actually the increase in flow velocity due to the reduction in diameter of the control valve, as the flow velocity increases as the diameter decreases.
Solution: Keep the sensor away from the control valve, with the sensor positioned 30D upstream of the control valve, or move the sensor to a position 5D upstream of the control valve.
5. The ultrasonic flowmeter is operating normally, but it is no longer measuring flow
Factor analysis:
1. The measured medium has been changed. Solution: Change the measurement method.
2. The measured medium undergoes gasification due to excessively high temperature. Solution: reduce the temperature
3. The temperature of the measured medium exceeds the limit temperature of the sensor. Solution: reduce the temperature
4. The coupling agent beneath the sensor has aged or been depleted. Solution: Apply coupling agent again
5. Due to high-frequency interference, the surface exceeds its own filtering value. Solution: Keep away from the interference source
6. Data loss in the accounting machine. Solution: Enter all accurate parameters from scratch
7. The accounting machine has crashed. Solution: Restart the accounting machine
